The single leading input cost to the beef industry is feed. We believe it is crucial that cattle convert photosynthetic energy to viable protein at the utmost efficiency. We ensure this by strict selection for moderate dry matter intake and optimum feed to gain performance.

Soundness

Here at the Lazy Swede Ranch our view is that a great cow is synonymous with a well-built structure, in everything depends on a solid foundation. Because of this we prioritize skeletal and foot soundness to the maximum. Nothing else matters if your cattle cannot cover country like the good Lord intended.

Fertility

A cow's ability to conceive, raise, and ween a calf year after year is the ultimate score card on any ranch. Here at the LSR we have a zero-tolerance policy for a lack of production. We demand this by culling all opens, strict observation of cattle that miss a cycle in the breeding season, and genetic selection for high Leachman fertility scores.
